The Clinical Research Center for Brain Sciences conducts multidisciplinary research focusing on the brain, blending basic and applied clinical sciences with the special patient population available for immediate study. The research concentrates on Neurodegenerative Diseases with a special emphasis on Parkinson’s Disease and related disorders, drawing on our expertise in neuro-pyschogeriatrics, as well as work that has been ongoing in the hospital looking into the molecular and histopathological level of cerebellar function in Parkinson’s patients. The current areas of focus are stroke – researching the process of neuro-rehabilitation working in Transcranial Direct and Alternating Current Stimulation which is a growing field in the science of cognition and especially in stroke recovery; Anoxic Brain Damage, schizophrenia, depression, and ALS.

The Community Mental Health Center treats 2000 men, women and children each month on an outpatient basis with an extensive program in schools, clinics and other institutions. Special clinics treat children with Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder and Tourette’s Syndrome   It has developed significant experience in counseling the ultra-orthodox.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder-Victims of terrorist attacks, domestic and school violence, car accidents and Holocaust survivors and their children, suffer from a unique form of anxiety and behavioral problems known as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).  Herzog’s Israel Center for the Treatment of Psychotrauma maintains one of the most effective treatment and research centers in Israel. It has already become an international resource center as well as working with trauma specialists throughout the world. Today it is a nationwide leader in helping Israelis cope with the violence of terrorist attacks and the ongoing rocket attacks in southern Israel. The TraumaCenter has become the key magnet providing trauma counseling services, therapy and educational seminars in Jerusalem and throughout Israel.
