First Teleconference between Israeli, Jordanian and Palestinian Doctors

(June 22, 2005) For the first time in Herzog Hospital’s history, Hospital doctors participated in a live international tele-health video conference. The conference was held with the support of WHO (World Health Organization) and CISEPO (Canada International Scientific Exchange Program)and with the participation of doctors from Herzog Hospital, Baycrest Medical Center in Toronto, University of Toronto, the King Abdullah University Hospital at Irbid, Al Quds University, the Edith Wolfson Medical Center of Holon, the Medical Research Council and the Nelson Mandela School of Medicine in South Africa and the World Health Organization in Switzerland.
This teleconference featured a case presentation on "Cognitive Difficulties, Personality Changes, Bipolar Affective Disorder and Parkinsonism”.
The goal of this particular telecast was to help the patient, but another outcome was the ability to communicate freely from remote locations.
The event demonstrated the ability of utilizing the common language of healthcare to transcend political, language, and cultural barriers. This experience showed the value of international professional collaboration as related to a complex healthcare issue.
Dr. Yakir Kaufman, Director of Neurology at Herzog discussed with colleagues from the University of Toronto, Baycrest Geriatric Medical Center, University of Windsor, the Rotary Committee for International Development and Mount Sinai Hospital in Canada; the Edith Wolfson Medical Center of Holon, Israel; Al Quds University, West Bank; the King Abdullah University Hospital at the Jordan University of Science and Technology, Irbid; the Medical Research Council of South Africa in Pretoria and the Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine in Durban and the World Health Organization in Geneva Switzerland.
This encounter is part of the Canada International Scientific Exchange Program (CISEPO), which strives to increase academic exchanges between medical professionals throughout the world, with a special focus on the Israeli, Jordanian and Palestinian medical communities. An objective of the teleconference will be to exchange knowledge among the participants utilizing a comparative needs assessment and evaluation process, focusing on the improvement of healthcare outcomes utilizing teleconferencing as a communication medium.
The teleconference was held at Herzog’s Lily Silver Education Center.
